New JBL Subcompact VerTec Array Review
Posted on May 7th, 2010 at 12:56 pm by Jason. Category: Product InformationOn Wednesday our friends from Plus Four Marketing (Todd) and JBL (Raul) came down to show us the new subcompact line array system, armed with three VT4886 3-way top boxes and two VT4883 dual 12″ subs boxes. We were very impressed with these new boxes when we heard them last week and we wanted to hear them again. This time Todd brought Raul who works with JBL as a Touring Sound Field Engineer to tell us more about the boxes, how they are being used, and show off some of the impressive new DSP built into the new Crown HD amplifiers specifically for this set of speakers.
Not only did Raul impress us with his knowledage and real-world application information for these speakers but his music collection was equally impressive. Overall we were very impressed with the system. As a matter of fact our owner & audio designer Kyle Anderson said “If I had to write an email right now, all I would write is: WOW!”
Things we liked about the system:
1) Incredibly compact – this system has a very small footprint – but don’t think it doesn’t have the horsepower.
2)Smooth articulation - the mid-high frequencies were articlulate and clear with lots of definition without being fatiguing.
3) The subs – the dual 12″ subs had very impressive output with a nice defined punch and had very good impact. Unlike other sub woofers it did not excite our entire warehouse – it simply hit us in the chest. We like that.
4) Efficiency – lastly we were impressed that this system (3x VT4886 and 2x VT4883) ran off of one Crown i-TECH HD amplifier plugged into a 15amp circuit (which also did all of our DSP)!
In review – we would very impressed and feel this is a new level for the JBL VerTec line up. We would highly recommend this sytem for applications that call for an super compact, high SPL setup with high sonic fidelity.
